chinese goverment formating 250.000.000 microbloging users

Sina owns the most Microblogging users, its accounts reaches to 250,000,000. But Chinese government is taking measures on controlling and formatting users, because they think social network lead to social unrest and the tendency of anti-government, Beijing newspaper writes on 10th November.

Weibo users broke 200,000,000 in August, this number arises 50,000,000 in only three months. Due to such amount of users, the measures of using real name have been taken in October. Before this action was taken, users could use fake name to tweet information that damage image of communist and lead to social unrest. The social network controlling office is starting to delete tweets and even blocking more overseas websites in the name of protecting citizens.

August train accident in Wenzhou and October tube accident in Shanghai’s victims also used Weibo to tweet. But victims’ comment and government’s statements are not the same. More citizens are trying to use social network to tell their own stories. Communist party and Chinese government are afraid of the expanding of freedom speech through social media may influence more people. Thus, they are now enhancing the management of social media and to stress that “the aim of controlling network is for making a better online environment”.
